There are five different species that are most common in Ontario.
Brown Banded Roach
Australian And Asian cockroach
These species are a nuisance because they infest homes, businesses and other structures and they are able to spread disease and cause other health issues. Most indoor roach infestations are treated in the same manner regardless of the species.
Roaches also hide and breed behind or under refrigerators, stoves, microwaves, dishwashers, sinks, or cabinets.
Roaches may also be found in or around floor drains, inside the motor areas of refrigerators and microwaves, behind wall mounted pictures or clocks, under floor mats, behind wall paper and in cracks and crevices in cabinets and around walls.
Roaches get into everything, multiply rapidly, and can survive for several months without food and up to two weeks without water. The best way to get rid of roaches includes a complete roach treatment process with two basic steps: sanitation and the actual product applications.
Getting rid of food sources and elimination of water sources are the most important parts of roach control.
